David Collins, owner and operator of Sandlapper Forensic Consulting, is dedicated to providing quality, unbiased, comprehensive, and accurate results to his clients. As an independent firearm and tool mark examiner (often referred to in the media as a "ballistics expert ") with more than 30 years of experience, he is ready to examine the records and evidence in your case and give you the answers you need in order to prepare your case. Whether your need is a thorough review of the case documents or a full examination (including microscopy) of the evidence, David is capable of providing a complete and accurate understanding of the case at hand. He will ensure that YOU understand all the essential aspects of your case, so will can plan your best strategy.

David has been qualified as an expert witness in this field and testified more than 200 times (including several capital cases). He has been subpoenaed by both the prosecution and the defense during his career. During these trials he has never had his qualifications successfully challenged.
David prides himself on being able to connect with a jury, explaining the evidence and his results in a manner that is understandable and engaging. He is dedicated to maintaining the integrity of truth in his examinations and testimony, and will accept both criminal and civil cases from the defense, prosecution, plaintiffs, and law enforcement entities.
Examinations and Re-Examinations
Do You Need A Second Opinion?
If the opposing counsel has the results of examinations prepared by their witness, it would be in your client’s best interest to have your own witness review the case, and perhaps re-examine the evidence. Bias may be the enemy of truth, and to err is human – the effects of either in the opposition’s examination could have a serious and tragic impact on your case. David is ready to review the opposition’s case documents with an impartial eye and, if needed, perform the necessary re-examinations of the evidence. His experience as a firearm examiner allows him to identify evidence overlooked by the opposition and perform examinations on those items (or locations) as needed.
